Obaseki says adequate intelligence is the best security in Nigeria

The Edo state governor has revealed the best way to go about security in Nigeria

Governor Obaseki revealed that information was more important than weapons

He also called on the people to support security agencies.
Godwin Obaseki has been hailed as the proper successor to Adams Oshiomole Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Saturday, March 18 while speaking at the closing ceremony of a 4-day security awareness conference organised by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Edo Chapter in Benin, revealed something vital. Obaseki said the power of security was not in carrying weapons, but on ability to disseminate vital information that would prevent perpetration of crimes.
While the governor was not present, he was ably represented at the programme by Mr Bashiru Kadiri, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture.
He also said that community policing should be all about the ability to circulate useful information that would lead to reduction of criminal activities in our society. Speaking on the power of collaboration, Obaseki said that information gathering was a collaborative effort and called on all the citizens to cooperate with the security agencies and the government in reducing crime.
This he said because according to him, the people perpetrating criminal activities live among us and needed to be identified and reported to the appropriate authorities through intelligence gathering.
He said: “We want to create a secured environment that will encourage investors to come to the state.“This is why my administration is putting necessary strategies in place to ensure that the state is peaceful and secured.“We have the resources and the land; that is why my government is ready to enhance and utilise them to prevent wastes.”Commandant-General of VGN, Usman Jaun, also thanked the participants for attending the conference, saying that it would sharpen their security skills.
He said: “There should be a call for a virile, efficient and effective collaboration among the stakeholders at the grass roots and security operatives.“This is a way of winning the hearts and minds in the fight against insecurity in our society.”Meanwhile, shortly after his victory, Godwin Obaseki said that members of PDP, APGA will be excluded from his cabinet.
Obaseki said he will not accept anyone from the opposition into his cabinet, so that there is no friction.
